Search & Teach
A Program for Schools
Search emerged from 25 years of study and treatment of children with learning and emotional problems seen at New York University. It is the core of a Scanning approach for the prevention of Learning Disability which has been in use since 1968. Search has been constructed to assess those parameters of maturation and experiential background that the clinical and research data leads to believe are basic to school learning in a very systematic fashion.

TEACH

Teaching Approach
The learning tasks of TEACH programme proceed through three stages of Increasing complexity: Recognition, Copying and Recall. Mastery of each learning stage is demonstrated by the application of our “three by three” rule. This means that the child is considered to have mastered a task only when he has responded correctly three times during three separate sessions.
Four main areas in which the child must learn to function effectively if he is to read well: Perceptual skills, Word attack, Comprehension and Study Skills
TEACH consists of
The Perceptual stimulation approach utilizes the directed activities provided in TEACH to develop skills basic to learning to read, write and spell.
Intervention decisions are based upon each child’s Search scores which clearly indicate and highlight core areas for educational intervention. Search scores of 5 or below are regarded as vulnerable ranges.
